Repair or replace?
Faulty thermostats, heating elements and connections can usually be repaired. If a storage tank itself is leaking, it normally needs to be replaced, as a leaking tank cannot be safely patched. Most storage heaters last around 8 to 12 years depending on water quality and use. If yours is near the end of that range and needs a major part, replacement is usually the better value.
Safety first
A heater that trips the power or gives a tingle from the tap is a safety issue. Switch the heater off at the isolator and do not use it until it has been checked.
