Signs your toilet is choked

  • Water rises to the rim or drains very slowly after flushing
  • Gurgling sounds from the bowl or floor trap
  • Bad smell that does not go away after cleaning
  • Water backing up into the floor trap or shower drain

How we clear a choked toilet

We start with the least invasive method. Most chokes are cleared with a professional plunger or a toilet auger (drain snake) that reaches past the bowl trap. For blockages further down the pipe, we use a longer drain machine. Once the flow is back, we test several flushes and check the waste pipe connection for leaks.

We do not rely on harsh chemical drain cleaners. They rarely clear solid blockages like wet wipes or sanitary items and can damage older pipes.

Common causes of toilet chokes

  • Wet wipes, tissues in large amounts, sanitary pads and diapers
  • Children's toys or small objects flushed by accident
  • Low-flush cisterns that do not push waste far enough
  • Build-up in old or badly sloped waste pipes

If the choke is in the common stack pipe (shared by the whole HDB block), we will tell you so you can inform your town council.

Frequently asked questions

How much does toilet choke clearing cost?

It depends on where the blockage is and how it has to be cleared. Tell us what is happening on WhatsApp or by phone and we will give you a clear quote before any work starts.

Can I use a chemical drain cleaner first?

We do not recommend it. Chemicals seldom clear solid blockages and can make the job harder and more hazardous for the plumber.

Will you need to remove the toilet bowl?

Rarely. Most chokes are cleared with an auger. Removal is only needed if an object is stuck inside the bowl trap.

Do you come at night?

Yes. We run 24/7, including weekends and public holidays.
